Escape Room The Game
The base box comes with a real gadget: the Chrono Decoder, a battery powered timer that counts down 60 minutes out loud and accepts four plastic keys. Turn the keys the right way and the machine confirms the code, get it wrong and time is taken off. Four rooms are included, among them Prison Island, Nuclear Countdown and Virus, for three to five players from age 16. Price is higher than card only games, usually 40 dollars and up, because of the device.
That device is also the point of buying this one. Dozens of expansion packs plug into the same decoder for about 15 dollars each, so the hobby gets cheaper after the first purchase. The noise and the beeping raise the pressure, which is fun for some and stressful for others. It needs three AA batteries, not in the box, and the puzzle sheets are used up, so keep the manual for a reset.
