The raised ridges Simpson calls "Wave Eliminators" run over the crown to cut buffeting in open cockpits, which is exactly the condition a kart driver lives in. The eyeport is recessed so the shield seats flush against the shell, the pivot and latch system was redesigned for the SA2020 generation, and every helmet leaves the box head restraint ready with M6 hardware. Sizes run XS to XXL, a clear shield and a helmet bag are included, and street prices sit in the several hundred dollar range, with the carbon shell version noticeably dearer.
Sensible for adult club karters whose series accepts an SA rated helmet and who also run a track car or a dirt machine, since one lid then covers both. Not an option for junior classes governed by CMR rules, and it carries more weight on the neck than a purpose built karting shell over a long, hot race day.
