Acolyte Instruments is a small American workshop in Glendale, near Los Angeles. Founder Terence Jay has been hammering handpans for over ten years and runs two lines: Acolyte, the ready to ship series, and Nirvana, the custom high end side. Beside handpans the shop builds gongs, chimes, euphonics and sound art pieces, all made in the USA. Standard handpans are 21 inch, tuned to 440 Hz, and come in the shop PC steel finish, which does not need oiling like most raw steel pans. Every instrument ships with a microfiber cloth and a care guide.
Good choice for a buyer who wants a hand tuned instrument from a named maker and a real showroom to visit before paying. Less good for a tight budget: American handmade work costs several times more than factory pans, and custom Nirvana orders take a long wait.
