Nine studios on one campus in Berry Hill, a few minutes from downtown Nashville. John and Martina McBride opened Blackbird in 2002 and turned it into the room country, rock and pop acts fly in for: Studio C with its Neve, the big tracking floor, and a microphone and outboard collection the team calls the largest in the United States. Bookings run with a four hour minimum for studio, engineer and assistant. The Blackbird Academy, an audio engineering school, shares the same address.
Works well for full band tracking, orchestral overdubs and long album blocks, because you can move between rooms without leaving the building. Less suited to a quick vocal session on a small budget: the minimum, the day rates and the gear list are aimed at funded projects. Berry Hill itself is quiet, so plan food and hotels around Music Row instead.
