Eric Astor founded Furnace in 1996 as a manufacturing service for punk and indie labels, brokering pressings before building its own plant in Virginia and installing new Newbilt presses in 2018. The company still handles everything around the record too: cassettes, CDs, jackets, inserts, packaging design help and warehousing for labels that do not want to run their own stock.
That one stop model is the reason many US indies stay: one project manager covers the vinyl, the tapes and the fulfilment. Because Furnace grew out of brokerage, part of the catalogue may still be produced by partners depending on format and volume, so it is worth asking where a specific job will be made. Prices are mid market rather than budget.
