Kretzer Scheren has been forging scissors in Solingen since 1923 and is still owner managed, now in the third generation. Around 50 people make roughly 460 models and about 1.2 million pairs a year, mostly under the Finny name. Left-handed versions sit inside the regular catalogue and are marked with the letter l in the article number, for example the Finny Classic 760213-l, a 5 inch embroidery and thread pair. Blades are ice tempered stainless steel, handles use two component plastic with rubber inlays, and the factory runs its own sharpening service.
Suits sewers, tailors and dry cleaners who want German steel that lasts years rather than a season. In the US the brand travels through sewing suppliers and Amazon, so prices jump between sellers and rare left-handed articles need ordering. The website is German first, with euro prices.
