Listings come from tenants handing over a lease, from roommates filling a room and from agents, and the site marks whether the landlord approval process is quick or complicated.
Search is free and contact goes straight to the person listing. Outside the five boroughs the site is useless, and a share of the ads carry broker fees, which can wipe out the savings of a short term deal. Anyone taking over a lease should confirm in writing that the building actually permits the sublet, since an unapproved handover can end badly in the middle of August.
