Mullvad is a Swedish VPN with a pricing policy almost nobody else follows: one plan, €5 a month, unchanged since launch in 2009. For US payers that comes to roughly $5.50 depending on conversion. There are no annual discounts and no renewal hikes. Sign-up needs no email, just a randomly generated account number, and you can pay with a card, PayPal, Bitcoin, Monero or cash by mail. The network is modest at about 700 servers in 50+ countries, and WireGuard is the default protocol.
Mullvad suits privacy-focused players who connect to nearby servers and want to avoid promotional pricing tricks. It is a weak choice for hosting. Mullvad removed port forwarding in 2023, so NAT problems stay unsolved, and long routes such as Europe to Asia show more slowdown. There is no free trial, but unused days can be refunded.
