Gary Belz and Allen Sides opened this studio in 1996 inside a Gothic revival stone church from 1910 on 17th Avenue South, right on Music Row. The old sanctuary is the main tracking room, tall and stone walled, which is why orchestras and game and film score sessions book it. Belmont University bought the studio in 2001 and runs it two ways: a commercial facility for outside clients and a teaching room for the Mike Curb College audio engineering program.
A natural pick for anything with strings, choir or a large rhythm section, and for artists who want a room with obvious character on the recording. The university side is the catch: the calendar has to fit around classes and student sessions, so flexible dates help. The stone sanctuary is also a loud, live space, less useful if you want a dry, controlled sound for close miked pop vocals.
