REI is an American outdoor co-op founded in 1938, with around 190 stores and a large online shop. Kids' and youth rain gear is a separate section, and the own brand Rainier jacket for kids runs roughly from 59 to 85 dollars depending on size and colour. Sizes go from toddler up to youth XL, and from there a teen slides straight into adult XS or S, often in the same jacket family. Membership costs a one time 30 dollars and brings a yearly dividend plus a longer return window.
Handy when a teen wants to try things on: staff will explain the difference between a 2 layer and a 3 layer shell without pushing the dearest one. Sales pull prices down twice a year, though popular sizes vanish fast. Shipping outside the United States is limited, so for Europe or Asia this shop mostly works during a trip.
