Shun is the kitchen knife line of Kai, a Japanese cutlery house whose roots go back to Seki City in 1908. The knives are still forged and finished in Seki, while Kai USA in Tualatin, Oregon handles North American distribution and the free sharpening programme. Shun is one of the few large makers that keeps mirrored left-handed versions of its core models in the catalogue.
