Starshaped Press
Chicago studio on North Ravenswood that works only with hand set antique metal and wood type. No photopolymer, no digital shortcut: every line is composed letter by letter from the cases, then locked up and printed. The output is posters, music packaging, business cards and social stationery, plus a well known series of Chicago themed prints. Visits happen by appointment, and the press schedule is deliberately small.
An honest match for people who want type of the last century, set the way it was set then, and who can wait. The studio prints only work designed in house, so an outside designer arriving with a finished file will be turned away. Ordering a few hundred wedding invitations here is also unlikely; think single prints and short, careful runs.
