Surf Diva opened in La Jolla in 1996 as a women's surf school and grew into a shop plus school on Avenida de la Playa, a short walk from La Jolla Shores. Kids and teen camps take ages 6 to 16 and run in summer and in every school break, spring, fall and winter. Group size follows age: one instructor to three children at 7 and 8, one to four from 9 up. Instructors are lifeguard certified and ocean experienced.
La Jolla Shores is about the calmest beginner beach in San Diego, with lifeguards, showers and parking nearby. A Saturday Surf Club keeps children in the water through winter, 9:00 to 10:30, with the same coach and the same group each week. Boards and wetsuits come from the shop, open daily from 8:30. Advanced young surfers chasing contest coaching will find the programme too gentle.
