Third Man Pressing
Opened in 2017 behind the Third Man storefront in Detroit's Cass Corridor, this plant runs eight German built Newbilt presses that visitors can watch through a glass wall. It was built to press Third Man releases in the city where Jack White started the label, and it takes outside clients as well, with a taste for coloured, tri colour and other visually loud variants.
For a small label wanting a record that looks like an object, the finishing options and the Detroit story both help. The plant is compact, so schedules depend heavily on the label's own release calendar, and quotes are not the lowest around. Anyone in Michigan gets the rare chance to see their own record being pressed, which is a decent reason to choose it over a distant factory.
