EXIT: The Game, The Abandoned Cabin
The box that started the EXIT line in 2016 and took the Kennerspiel des Jahres award a year later. Inside there are riddle cards, answer cards, a decoder disc and a small booklet, nothing else. One to four players, age 12 and up, roughly one to two hours at the table. The publisher rates it 2 out of 5 for difficulty, so a group new to home escape games can finish it. Price usually sits near 15 dollars, far below a ticket to a real escape room.
One detail decides everything here: the game is single use. Cards get folded, torn and written on, and after the last code the box is spent. Good for a puzzle night with friends, bad for anyone who wants a game to keep and replay. Solo play works fine, though two or three heads move quicker. Most owners simply pass the box on to the next group.
