Kobo Sage

Brand: Kobo Writing Life

0

An 8 inch monochrome reader with a 1440 by 1920 Carta panel at 300 ppi, 32 GB of storage, IPX8 protection, Bluetooth for audiobooks and page turn buttons on the wide bezel. It arrived in 2021 near $260 and still holds a place as the middle size in Kobo's range, sitting between the 7 inch Libra and the 10.3 inch Elipsa. Kobo Stylus 2 support brings handwriting and annotation straight onto PDF pages.

The larger page pays off with technical books, sheet music and scanned documents that a 6 inch screen mangles. At roughly 240 grams it is heavier than a paperback, so long sessions in bed favour a smaller model. Firmware updates continue, but the hardware is several years old and the price rarely drops far.

Pros

  • 8 inch 300 ppi page suited to PDFs
  • Physical page turn buttons
  • Bluetooth audiobook playback
  • Stylus annotation on PDF pages
  • 32 GB storage and IPX8 rating

Cons

  • Around 240 grams, heavy for one hand
  • Older hardware at a current price
  • Stylus sold separately
  • No colour option in this size
