A proper box with a real speaker rather than a pocket gadget, and the only machine here with an adaptive mode: a microphone listens to the room and lifts the volume when a lorry passes, then settles back. Ten sound environments each hold several richer variations, and there is a headphone jack, a sleep timer and steady volume increments. It runs from a mains adaptor and costs several times what a basic disc costs.
Suited to a bedroom facing a busy street, or an office where speech needs masking across a whole room. Overkill for a nursery or a suitcase, given the size and the price. The front display glows, so light sensitive sleepers will want to dim or cover it, and the adaptive feature can feel restless if the room noise rises and falls constantly.
