Founded in New York in 2014 by Avi Burstein and Ben Blodgett after both suffered through Craigslist roommates, Diggz built a matching feed where profiles are scored for compatibility on cleanliness, schedules, pets and smoking before anyone talks. Searching and messaging are free, which is the main argument in its favour. In 2017 the service went nationwide, and a year later it added apartment listings, so a pair of strangers can match first and then look for a place together.
A separate feature lets users request a tenant screening report from a potential roommate inside the platform, useful when you are the one holding the lease. Coverage is deepest in New York and other large cities; in quieter markets the matches run out in an evening. Profiles are lightly moderated, so verify who you are talking to before any deposit changes hands.
