Rowan University opened this museum in Mantua in March 2025 on a 65-acre former marl quarry with a 66-million-year-old bone bed, the only site east of the Mississippi with an open quarry for public dig days. More than 100,000 fossils have been logged here: mosasaur bone, sea turtle, crocodile and shark teeth. General admission starts at twenty-nine dollars for adults and twenty-four for children aged three to twelve.
The quarry dig is a twenty-five dollar add-on to admission and gives up to an hour of digging plus one fossil to take home. Guests must be sixteen to dig unaccompanied, younger children work with an adult. Twenty minutes from Philadelphia, it is the easiest fossil dig in the country to reach without a long road trip, but an hour in the marl is a taster rather than an expedition.
