Board&Dice went in the opposite direction to everyone else: no timer, no countdown, and around six to eight hours of play split across several evenings. The Awakening, Low Memory and Children of Wyrmwoods each hand you an action token system, so searching a location costs tokens and you cannot simply scan every corner. A thick story book carries the plot, and choices genuinely close doors behind you.
Themes are adult and heavy: a dying child, memory loss, a village with a very bad history. That reading load makes it a poor fit for a loud party of six, while one or two players who like slow narrative games get a lot out of it. Progress can be saved between sessions, and the puzzles are mostly logical rather than lateral, which will please anyone burned by riddle style boxes.
