Glowforge came out of a 2015 crowdfunding campaign and still builds the same idea: a closed CO2 desktop machine that a person with no engineering background can run on day one. The Plus and Pro models use a 45W tube over a bed of roughly 495 by 279 mm, a wide angle camera photographs the material, and the job is placed on the screen by dragging the artwork onto the picture. The Aura is the small diode model for paper, wood veneer and light gift work.

The catch is the cloud. Files are processed on Glowforge servers, so the machine needs internet, LightBurn is not an option, and part of the print settings library sits behind the Premium subscription. For a gift studio or a school this trade is usually fine, and the print quality on Proofgrade plywood is repeatable. For a workshop that needs offline control, custom power curves or heavy production, it is the wrong tool.
