Investopedia has been the default reference for market terms since 1999 and still runs one of the largest free finance dictionaries online. For beginners the useful parts are the step by step guides on opening a brokerage account, reading a stock quote and building a first portfolio, plus a stock simulator with a virtual 100,000 dollar balance and games you can join with friends.

Everything is free and ad supported, which is both the appeal and the catch: the site is huge and not laid out as a linear course, so it takes discipline to follow one path instead of jumping between articles. The paid Academy that once sold structured video courses is no longer the focus, so treat Investopedia as a reference library and practice ground rather than a curriculum.
