Kilner is a British preserving brand with roots in 1842, when John Kilner began making glass jars in Castleford, Yorkshire. The original firm closed in 1937; the name was revived by the Rayware Group, based near Liverpool, which bought the Ravenhead business including Kilner in 2003. Today the range covers clip top jars with the embossed logo and orange rubber seal, screw top preserve jars with a two piece lid, drinks dispensers, fermentation sets, a butter churner and sourdough kits. Sizes run from small 0.35 litre jars up to large storage jars.

Handy for jam, pickles, dry pantry storage and gifts, and the jars are sturdy enough for years of reuse. American canners should note the metric sizing and non standard lids: replacement seals come from Kilner rather than the local hardware store, and clip top jars are meant for storage and short term preserves, not pressure canning.
