Sparco started in Turin in 1977. Two racers, Enrico Glorioso and Antonio Parisi, wanted safer clothing for drivers, and the first fireproof suits made the name. The company still sits in Volpiano just outside Turin. Today the catalogue runs from FIA homologated seats, harnesses and helmets to steering wheels, suits, gloves, shoes, karting kit and work clothing. Sparco gear shows up in rally and single seaters, and alloy wheels with the badge are built under licence by OZ Group.
Suits track drivers who need paperwork that scrutineers accept, and street drivers who simply want an Italian made seat with real support. Prices sit above the budget brands, and homologated seats and belts expire after a set number of years, so the cost comes back around. Bigger drivers should try a seat before buying, because the shells are cut narrow. Fakes turn up online, so buy from listed dealers.
