Windfinder is run from Kiel by a small German company and has focused on wind since the late nineties. It combines standard model output with Superforecast, a higher resolution local forecast for coastal areas, and shows live reports from airports and private weather stations next to the prediction. Spot pages include wind statistics by month, tide tables and water temperature, which is handy when picking a kite trip window.

The interface is calm and readable, so it works well as a first forecast app. Windfinder Plus removes ads, extends the forecast range and adds more detail per hour. The weak point is model depth: hardcore users who want to compare four models and raw GRIB data will find it too simplified, and station coverage is much thinner outside Europe.
