The museum in Thermopolis works its own quarries on the ranch land above town and sells seats on them: Dig for a Day, Kids Dig, Shovel Ready for those who prefer sifting to hiking, plus Paleo Prep in the lab. A day begins at 8 am with a safety talk and an introduction to local geology, transport leaves at 8:15 and no personal vehicles go to the site. A sack lunch with sandwich, chips, fruit and water is included, and dietary requests are taken in advance.
Good for a first dig and for mixed-age groups, since children have a separate programme. Finds stay with the museum: staff record the specimen number, date and the name of whoever uncovered it. Museum entry is charged separately, twelve dollars for adults and ten for seniors and children. Closed shoes or boots are compulsory, guests in sandals are turned away.
