YSEQ is a small Berlin laboratory run by Thomas and Astrid Krahn, both known in Y chromosome research long before they opened their own shop. The model is à la carte: individual SNP tests cost a few euros each, panels and haplogroup packs cost more, and full Y sequencing or whole genome sequencing sits at the top of the list. Orders are processed quickly and raw files, including BAM and VCF, are handed over without restriction, which is why citizen scientists building branches of the Y tree gravitate here.
Not a consumer product in any ordinary sense. There are no ethnicity pie charts, no relative finder and no polished dashboard, so a first time tester will feel lost. For someone who already has a Big Y or a whole genome file and needs to confirm a terminal SNP or test a cousin cheaply, it is the most economical route available.
