ZOLEO Inc. was set up in Toronto in 2018 and launched its first satellite communicator in January 2020. Since January 2026 it has been fully owned by Roadpost, a Canadian satellite carrier founded in 1991. That ended a long arbitration with its former partner, Beam Communications. The device pairs with a phone over Bluetooth and sends messages over Iridium, cellular or Wi-Fi, picking the cheapest route by itself. Each subscriber gets a dedicated SMS number and email address.
Price is the big draw. The device lists at $199 and often drops to $119 to $149 in promotions. Plans start at $19.99 a month for 50 satellite messages, unlimited costs $34.99, and both come with a 3-month minimum and a $19.99 activation fee. It suits hikers, cabin owners and field workers who already live in a messaging app. The hardware has buttons for SOS and check-in only, with no screen or maps.
