Zoologist Perfumes
Toronto brand founded by Victor Wong in 2013, built on one strange idea: each perfume tells the story of an animal. Beaver, Bat, Hyrax, Squid, Chameleon, Nightingale. Wong does not compose them himself, he hires independent perfumers such as Shelley Waddington, Cecile Zarokian and Tomoo Inaba, which is why the line has no single house accord. Extrait strength, 60 ml bottles, labels drawn like old zoo posters.
Suits collectors who enjoy a challenge and animalic notes done on purpose. Bat really does smell of damp earth and overripe fruit, and Hyrax is heavy going for a first try, so start with the 2 ml samples. Wearability varies wildly from one release to the next.
