Bear Archery carries Fred Bear's name and has made bows since 1933, now out of Gainesville, Florida. Its strength is traditional recurve: the Grizzly, Kodiak, Super Kodiak and the classic Takedown, built with laminated wood and fiberglass limbs in hunting draw weights. These are bows shot instinctively, without sights.

They suit traditional and instinctive archers and bowhunters who want a classic in the hand and a warm wood look. Olympic-style target shooters will look elsewhere, as the one-piece models take no ILF limbs and offer no adjustment. Wood is wood, so grain and finish differ a little from one bow to the next.
