Built by Bresser of Rhede in Germany and sold under the National Geographic licence, this is the classroom style planetarium: a dome that turns by motor, a shooting star function and a projection of roughly 1.6 by 2.2 metres from two metres away. The set covers northern and southern hemisphere discs, runs from batteries or a mains adapter, and adds a built in FM radio with an input for a music player, an old fashioned touch that children seem to enjoy. Warranty runs two years and stretches to five if the buyer registers within three months.
The price sits far below the Japanese optical machines, and the picture is honest about that: stars are visible and correctly placed, though softer at the edges. A reasonable first planetarium for a family or a school corner, less convincing for an adult who has already looked through a Homestar.
