The New Zealand Avalanche Advisory is produced by the Mountain Safety Council and covers the country's main backcountry areas, from Aoraki and the Craigieburns to Fiordland and Ruapehu. Each regional advisory gives a danger rating by elevation, the current avalanche problems, a snowpack summary and recent observed activity, with forecasts issued through the southern winter from roughly June to October. Photos from forecasters and field teams make the written picture easier to trust.

Free to use and readable on a phone through the mobile site rather than a native app, which is the main practical annoyance. Coverage is patchy across the enormous terrain of the Southern Alps, and some advisory areas rest on limited observations. Anyone planning a southern hemisphere season should pair it with MetService mountain forecasts.
