Varsom is the warning service of the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate, and its app bundles avalanche forecasts for Norway and Svalbard with flood, landslide and lake ice warnings and weather from Yr. Bulletins cover more than twenty forecast regions, with danger level, avalanche problem, snowpack notes and a mountain weather summary. The Regobs system is built in: users submit snow profiles, avalanche activity and photos from the field, and those observations feed straight back to the forecasters.
The interface works in English, which matters for visitors to Lyngen or Lofoten, and everything is free. It is observation heavy rather than polished, and the mapping is basic compared with dedicated route planning software. Northern regions can be thinly observed, so bulletins there rest on fewer field reports.
