France built, and still the only serious contender with no cable between coil and control unit: the electronics live in the coil, and the remote or the WS6 headphones simply receive. FMF multi-frequency covers roughly 14 to 40 kHz with additional programmable single frequencies, the whole system is waterproof to 20 metres, and a full rig with the 9 inch coil weighs under a kilo. Beach programmes handle salt, and the remote can stay in a pocket while you swing with headphones alone.
Ideal for anyone who walks long shorelines or hunts from a boat, since there is nothing to snag and almost nothing to carry. The trade off is a system of separate batteries in coil, remote and headphones, all needing charge before a trip, and a settings tree that intimidates newcomers. Spares are dealer only, and repairs travel back to Europe.
