Four engineers founded Creality in Shenzhen in 2014, and the Ender-3 they launched in 2018 did more than any other machine to push desk-side 3D printing below a couple of hundred dollars. The catalogue has since spread into the K1 CoreXY range, HALOT resin printers, Falcon laser engravers, 3D scanners and filament. By its ninth anniversary the company counted sales in more than 100 countries, and the K1 series collected a Red Dot award.

The real asset is the ecosystem: nozzles, hotends, bed springs and printed mods for Ender frames are everywhere, and community slicer profiles exist for almost every model. Tinkerers get an absurd amount of hardware per dollar. Anyone who wants a sealed appliance that works on day one should pay for the enclosed models rather than the cheap kits, since assembly tolerances vary between units and after-sales help often runs through the reseller.
