The ProFinish is Singer's attempt to put a 2, 3 and 4 thread serger under the 300 dollar line. It offers the common stitch configurations, a built-in rolled hem, adjustable stitch length and width, a movable upper knife and speeds close to 1,300 stitches per minute. Threading is manual with a color chart on the body, and the free arm makes sleeve seams less of a wrestling match.
It is a light machine and behaves like one: it moves on the table at speed, several housing parts are plastic, and fine silk demands patience with the tension dials. On cotton, fleece and jersey it does the job, and it is cheap enough to keep permanently threaded in black or white as a second machine. Upholstery weight fabric and daily production work belong to something heavier.
