The Messenger Plus came out in 2024 as the first inReach to send photos and 30-second voice messages over satellite. Garmin lists it at $499.99, though Amazon has sold it for $349.99 on sale. Texts can be up to 1,600 characters, and voice notes and pictures are composed in the Garmin Messenger app. The device weighs about 114 g (4.0 oz), has a 1.1-inch screen and an IPX7 rating, and works from -20 to +60°C. Battery life is up to 25 days with 10-minute tracking.
It suits people who don't mind doing everything through the phone and want long battery life plus media messages. Compared with the Mini 3 Plus, you give up the touchscreen and on-device typing but get noticeably longer runtime. Photos and voice clips count against plan allowances: the Essential plan includes 10, and on the pay-per-use Enabled plan each one costs extra. Watch your usage on long trips.
