The base inReach Mini 3 costs $449.99. It has the same body and the same 1.9-inch color touchscreen as the Plus: 4.31 oz, IP67, MIL-STD-810 rated, and up to 350 hours with 10-minute tracking. You can tell it apart by the gray antenna. Inside is the older Iridium antenna design carried over from the Mini 2, so it has no photo or voice messages. Texting, LiveTrack, weather forecasts, TracBack routing and interactive SOS to Garmin Response all work, and it pairs with the Garmin Messenger and Explore apps.
It makes sense for buyers who want to type on a touchscreen but don't care about media messages. The catch is the price gap: the Plus costs only $50 more, and several reviewers say that difference doesn't justify the base model. Unlike the Plus, it ships without the carabiner. Subscriptions are the same Garmin consumer plans, starting with the $7.99 Enabled tier.
